How do you know when to break off a Friendship?
Friendships are a gift from God and they can be amazing, but sometimes they get out of control. So how do you break them off? I have asked myself this many times and this has actually come up in my life, quite recently. So, I'm going to give you some tips on how you know you should stop being friends with someone and how to do it. This has definitely been a struggle and I thought this might be on someone else's mind too.
How do you know when you need to break off a friendship? Well there are quite a few reasons:
~They're abusive. This can be mental or physical. Such as, if they're telling you that you're rude or mean all the time or if they tell you everyone hates you. Physical is when they hit you or smack you, etc. Abusive relationships sometimes don't seem abusive at first, then they just get worse and worse, and then you don't know what to do.
~If this person is making fun of your religion. Your friends don't have to be of the same religion as you but they shouldn't make fun of you for it. Such as telling you that you purity ring is stupid or telling you the bible is a stupid thing to read. Just things of that nature.
~If they never let you say what you want. So, if they never let you voice your opinion. This doesn't mean you should tell them everything but you should still be able to tell them things. Sometimes, speaking you opinion is the most important part of a friendship because you should be able to tell a friend anything. That's why this is so bad.
~How do you show someone you don't want to be someone's friend? First you should never be rude to this person just because you don't want to be friends with her or him. Mark 12:31 Love your neighbor as yourself. This still applies no matter what situation you are in with this friend. I know it can be very hard at times, but you have to push through. Second, you have to just show them you don't want to be friends with them. Just drop subtle hints that you don't want to be as close, and if this person isn't backing away you may have to confront them. You just have to make sure you are kind and don't necessarily tell them you don't want to be friends with them Just tell them you don't think y'all should be as close of friends anymore. They may not take it well but your going to have to push through because you have to remember why your doing this!
Friend break ups can be just as hard as real breaks but if you handle it the right way it will go over a lot better. You just have to remember that you're doing this for your own good in the long run. So, just push through because you will make new friends and the other person will not bother you if you handled it the right way.
Hopefully, these tips will help you in your friendship battles. I know that things like this have helped me in the past. We are doing a series over friendships so if you have any suggestion please email us, direct message us on Instagram, or comment below! Have a great week!!
